Lead TMT protester responds to Governor’s action – Hawaii News Now – KGMB and KHNL

Native Hawaiian Kahookahi Kanuha says the protesters against the construction of the Thirty Meter Telescope will not give up. More than 90 days of occupying Mauna Kea have halted the construction so far. Kanuha is on Oahu for 3 days for a press conference at 12pm today at the Kamehameha statue to respond to the state. Governor Ige has vowed that construction will continue eventually and that he wants to keep the summit road open for public use.So far, it’s remained closed because of the rocks that were placed there. The governor has said that those rocks prevented crews from grading the road and called it an “act of vandalism”. Kanuha responded by saying if that was an act of vandalism, they will need to be creative in what they call the TMT.
